Posted on June 3, 2018We woke up to find out that nobody rolled off the edge of the cliff into the canyon. That’s always a good thing. Since we gave up trying to cook breakfast while camping a long time ago, the morning routine consisted mostly of packing up and riding around a little, just to check if the canyon looked any better from another vantage point. It looked about the same.

Posted on May 30, 2018Spring is in full force in the Bay Area, and the news from Toronto speak of final snowstorms before summer is allowed to return. My mind is getting used to treating the weather as a function of place rather than time, and I’m skimming the map of California in search of a place where the weather is favourable for a week long exploration. The sierras are a close contender but many of the beautiful mountain roads are still snowed in and closed, so my sights are set on Joshua Tree National Park and the Mojave Desert.

Seaside treasures

Posted on March 5, 2018Baja has a rich racing heritage which can be dated back to the 1967 “Mexican 1000 Rally” and even before that to the timed Tijuana to La Paz run in 1962. It offers a rough and diverse landscape that is both dangerous and fun to explore. So it was with much delight that we listened to our friends on the GSs recollect close encounters with racers gunning it across the sand whipping sand waves that followed them like shadows. This morning everyone was in better spirit, we packed and installed our gear and Marina even asked me to pump up the tires for the bit of slab riding we will do. Our breakfast was going to be at a special restaurant.
