  1. Islet of Vila Franca do Campo

    A 5-10 minute boat ride from the marina of Vila Franca do Campo is a small islet that’s quite a popular spot for both locals and visitors of the island. In the center of this volcanic islet is a perfectly circular bay filled with crystal clear ocean water. By some accounts, it’s one of the best places to snorkel on São Miguel, and we wanted to verify that for ourselves.

    The deep waters on the left serve as a landing spot for cliff jumpers, while the mellow pool on the right is for everyone else.

  2. Sete Cidades in the rain

    Aside from a pretty village and the multicoloured lakes, Sete Cidades also feature magnificent roads right on the ridges of the volcanic caldera. It’s as good as it sounds! A perfect riding destination.

  3. Toosday in São Miguel

    If you want to visit three very different beaches plus a historic, yet active town all in one day, there are few islands that will serve you better than São Miguel. For starters, we wanted to check out the often mentioned Caloura beach on the south side of the island. It’s not far from Água de Pau, which we visited, and in some ways it’s hard to say where one ends and the other begins.

  4. Wreck diving in São Miguel

    Just a few minutes from Ponta Delgada harbour lies a wreck of a ship that at one point participated in the D-Day invasion of 1944, and was later re-fitted as a cargo ship. It is known as the Dori wreck, and it’s one of the go-to locations for dive shops based in Ponta Delgada.
